PCB Manufacturing and Assembly FAQs

Answers about quote files, sourcing, assembly cost, lead time, inspection and repeat PCB builds.

What does PCB assembly and manufacturing include?

Fabrication creates the bare board. Assembly adds components through soldering and related operations. A full project can also include component sourcing, programming, inspection and functional testing; the written quote should state the included scope.

Which manufacturing files should I send?

Send fabrication data, drill files, board specifications and quantities. Add a BOM, placement file and assembly drawings when components will be installed. Use one revision and include test requirements.

Can I supply my own components?

A consigned or partial-turnkey arrangement may be suitable. Confirm required quantities, packaging, attrition, storage condition and responsibility for shortages before shipping material.

Does an alternate part only need the same value?

No. Package, pinout, electrical ratings, tolerance, temperature behavior, availability and firmware interactions can matter. Approve substitutions through engineering review.

What determines PCB assembly cost?

Component cost, board quantity, setup, package mix, soldering operations, inspection, programming and functional testing all contribute. Compare quotes with matching scope and assumptions.

How is the delivery schedule established?

The schedule depends on complete data, engineering approval, material and component availability, manufacturing operations and testing. Ask when the quoted lead time begins and whether shipping is included.

Does AOI replace functional testing?

No. Optical inspection examines visible assembly features. Functional tests check defined behavior under specified conditions. X-ray and electrical tests provide additional but different coverage.

How are inquiries handled?

The contact form saves your project question in our private inquiry system. Manufacturing quote links take you to the quotation destination, where you submit information directly.

Can this site guarantee my industry qualification?

No. The applicable qualification, certification scope and product requirements must be established and verified for your actual supplier and project.

How should I organize repeated orders?

Keep the approved design revision, BOM, alternates, firmware and test procedure together. Review component availability and changes before releasing each new build.
