Plan the manufacturing route
The bill of materials connects the electrical design to the supply chain. Exact manufacturer part numbers, package variants, temperature grades and population options need to be clear before purchasing begins. A reliable sourcing process also defines how exceptions are approved and recorded.
Source against the approved BOM
Use traceable procurement channels and preserve manufacturer and supplier information. A distributor description or a generic component value is not a substitute for a controlled manufacturer part number.
Manage shortages with engineering review
Alternates can change pinout, footprint, firmware behavior, electrical margins or qualification status. Record the technical review and the specific approved substitute before allowing a change.
Preserve material condition
Moisture sensitivity, ESD controls, reel orientation, date information and storage conditions can affect assembly. Consigned material needs a documented receiving check and clear handling instructions.
Before you request a quote
- Include reference designators and quantity per assembly.
- Separate approved alternates from suggested alternatives.
- Define responsibility for attrition and purchase multiples.
- Agree ownership and storage of unused material.
For a build-specific review, provide the actual revision, quantity and delivery requirement. Manufacturing limits, applicable certifications and lead time must be confirmed in the written quotation.
