Consumer Electronics and Wearable PCBs

Balance compact construction, user interfaces and manufacturing economics for consumer electronics.

Turn the application into a build specification

Consumer products and wearables bring mechanical packaging, assembly cost and user interaction into the PCB design. The highest density is not always the lowest-cost solution once assembly, test and rework are included.

Mechanical integration

Model connectors, switches, displays, batteries and enclosure clearances early. State component-height limits and review flex connections in their installed configuration.

Production economics

Compare panel utilization, component standardization, setup effort and automated test coverage. A modest board-size change can improve handling without changing the core circuit.

Pilot production

Use a pilot build to validate assembly fixtures, programming, cosmetics and test limits. Record the final firmware and hardware revision together before expanding the build.

What to include in your project brief

  • The actual operating environment and expected product lifecycle.
  • Fabrication, BOM and assembly data under one revision.
  • Required inspection, testing, traceability and shipment records.
  • Any supplier qualifications or handling restrictions that must be verified before release.
