Turn the application into a build specification
A small project benefits from the same file discipline as a production design. Begin with a board that fits conventional manufacturing rules and components that can actually be purchased and assembled with the intended method.
Verify the outputs
Open the generated manufacturing files in a viewer and check the outline, layer registration, drills and markings. The CAD editor view alone does not prove the exported files are correct.
Check the physical parts
Match connector orientation, pin numbering and package dimensions to the actual manufacturer drawings. Printing a footprint at scale can help catch obvious mechanical mismatches.
Bring up the board carefully
Prepare a current-limited power-up plan and accessible measurement points. Inspect assembly polarity and supply rails before installing expensive or difficult-to-replace parts.
What to include in your project brief
- The actual operating environment and expected product lifecycle.
- Fabrication, BOM and assembly data under one revision.
- Required inspection, testing, traceability and shipment records.
- Any supplier qualifications or handling restrictions that must be verified before release.
