High-Reliability PCB Procurement FAQs

Practical answers about high-reliability pcb procurement, release requirements and project review.

Use these answers to prepare a clear project brief and resolve scope before a manufacturing release.

Is “mil-spec” a complete purchase requirement?

No. Identify the actual specification, revision, class, drawings and contractual conditions. Different requirements may apply to fabrication, assembly and the finished product. Resolve conflicts before releasing production.

What supplier evidence should be checked?

Verify current documents and their scope against the intended company, facility and process. Confirm eligibility for the actual program before transferring restricted technical data. Do not infer qualification from an unrelated project or logo.

What should a traceability plan cover?

Define required links between the finished assembly, bare-board lot, component information, revision and test results. Agree how nonconformances, repairs and substitutions are documented. The necessary depth depends on the contract.

Can a standard commercial quote cover these requirements?

Only if the required controls and evidence are explicitly included and accepted. Specialized documentation, qualification or inspection can affect cost and schedule. Confirm these deliverables before comparing prices.
