PCB Footprint Design and Verification

Verify component land patterns, polarity, courtyard and mechanical clearance before assembly.

Use the actual package drawing

A package family name is not enough to define the footprint. Check body dimensions, lead dimensions, tolerances, pin numbering and exposed-pad details for the exact manufacturer part.

Coordinate land, mask and paste

Copper pads, solder-mask openings and paste apertures serve different purposes. Review thermal pads, fine-pitch leads and bottom-terminated packages with the intended assembly process.

Check the assembled product

Include courtyard, height and enclosure clearances. Verify connector mating direction, mechanical mounting and access for soldering, inspection and rework.

Prepare the review package

  • Manufacturer package drawing
  • Verified pin numbering and polarity
  • Copper, mask and paste definitions
  • Assembly and mechanical clearances
