Via DC Loss and Thermal Estimate

Calculate via dc loss and thermal estimate with explicit inputs, units and model limitations.

Use this browser-based tool for an initial engineering estimate. Inputs remain in this page and are not sent to a server.

Enter your values, then calculate.

Method and units

The model uses copper resistivity 1.724 × 10⁻⁸ Ω·m at approximately 20 °C and the plated barrel cross-section. It reports DC resistance, voltage drop and I²R loss. Temperature rise is loss × the effective thermal resistance you supply.

Model limits

This does not establish safe current capacity. The supplied thermal resistance must describe the actual board and via group; equal current sharing and constant resistivity are simplifying assumptions.

Use the result in your project

Record the assumptions with the result. Check actual material and component data, evaluate tolerances and confirm the proposed construction before releasing manufacturing files.
