Bandwidth, Rise Time and Critical Length Calculator

Calculate bandwidth, rise time and critical length with explicit inputs, units and model limitations.

Use this browser-based tool for an initial engineering estimate. Inputs remain in this page and are not sent to a server.

Enter your values, then calculate.

Method and units

Bandwidth is estimated as 0.35 / rise time for a single-pole response. Propagation velocity is c/√εeff. The displayed screening length uses a one-way delay equal to one-sixth of the rise time.

Model limits

The 0.35 factor depends on response shape, and the one-sixth criterion is a screening heuristic. Use actual channel and device models to decide whether transmission-line analysis is required.

Use the result in your project

Record the assumptions with the result. Check actual material and component data, evaluate tolerances and confirm the proposed construction before releasing manufacturing files.
