A complete package answers what to manufacture, what to populate and how to accept the result. Organize the files by purpose and release them at one revision. A manufacturer should not have to choose between conflicting outlines, BOMs or drawings to start the job.
Bare-board fabrication package
Provide the agreed manufacturing data, drill and routing information, dimensioned outline, layer order and stack-up requirements. State material, thickness, copper, surface finish and any special via or edge treatment. Add controlled-impedance definitions and required reports where applicable.
Component assembly package
Add the BOM with exact part numbers and population status, component-position data and assembly drawings. Document polarity, variants, consigned parts and approved alternatives. Include hardware, adhesives, cleaning, coating and other operations that affect the delivered assembly.
Programming and testing package
Identify the firmware image and revision, programming connection and sequence, required supplies and loads, and pass/fail limits. Define board identification and the test records that must be retained or delivered. A request to functionally test the board is incomplete without its intended behavior and acceptance criteria.
Release manifest and change control
List every file with its purpose and revision, plus the person authorized to answer engineering questions. Remove obsolete alternatives from the production folder. When one design change affects several outputs, regenerate and review those outputs together before releasing the update.
Release checklist
- One board identifier and revision throughout.
- One authoritative outline and layer order.
- BOM, placement and drawing references reconciled.
- Programming, tests and acceptance records defined.
