Turn the application into a build specification
A PCB becomes part of a medical-device system whose requirements depend on the device and intended use. “Medical grade” is not a complete fabrication specification. The device team must define the applicable controls, acceptance criteria and evidence required from its manufacturing supply chain.
Traceable configuration
Link board revision, component configuration, firmware and test procedure to each released build. Define which lots or serial numbers must be traceable and what records accompany shipment.
Supplier qualification
Verify the current certification scope and processes relevant to the project. A supplier certificate alone does not establish the safety or regulatory status of the finished medical device.
Verification plan
Translate product requirements into measurable acceptance criteria. Inspection, electrical testing and functional verification address different risks, so document each method and its limitations.
What to include in your project brief
- The actual operating environment and expected product lifecycle.
- Fabrication, BOM and assembly data under one revision.
- Required inspection, testing, traceability and shipment records.
- Any supplier qualifications or handling restrictions that must be verified before release.
