Automotive PCB Project Requirements

Define environmental, documentation and change-control requirements for automotive electronic assemblies.

Turn the application into a build specification

Automotive requirements vary significantly by installation location and product function. An interior display, a sensor module and a power-conversion assembly should not share an assumed environmental specification. Establish the actual program requirements before selecting a production route.

Environmental profile

Provide operating and storage temperature ranges, vibration exposure, humidity and relevant chemical conditions. Convert these into material, component and validation requirements.

Supply-chain evidence

Request current supplier certifications and their scope where the program requires them. Component qualification does not automatically qualify the finished assembly or its manufacturing process.

Controlled changes

Specify traceability, approved substitutions, process-change notification and documentation retention. Design and test changes need a recorded approval path throughout the product lifecycle.

What to include in your project brief

  • The actual operating environment and expected product lifecycle.
  • Fabrication, BOM and assembly data under one revision.
  • Required inspection, testing, traceability and shipment records.
  • Any supplier qualifications or handling restrictions that must be verified before release.
