Turn the application into a build specification
Telecommunications assemblies often combine fast digital interfaces, RF sections and dense power distribution. The board specification should distinguish each signal class and its measurement requirements rather than assigning one generic rule to the entire design.
Channel requirements
Define the interface, operating rate, loss budget and reference-plane strategy. Connectors, vias and layer changes create discontinuities that must be considered alongside nominal trace impedance.
RF construction
Specify material properties at relevant conditions and review transitions between different laminate systems. Agree which material substitutions require engineering approval.
Power and verification
Supply transient-load requirements and test access for important rails. Decide whether acceptance includes TDR, assembled RF measurements, high-speed functional testing or a combination.
What to include in your project brief
- The actual operating environment and expected product lifecycle.
- Fabrication, BOM and assembly data under one revision.
- Required inspection, testing, traceability and shipment records.
- Any supplier qualifications or handling restrictions that must be verified before release.
