Plan the manufacturing route
Flying probe systems move probes to accessible locations on a board to perform programmed electrical measurements. The approach can be useful when a dedicated fixture is not economical or when a design is still changing. Coverage depends on the circuit, access and the available measurement methods.
Review access before layout release
Test points, pad size, component height and keep-out areas determine whether probes can reach the intended nodes. Review access from both sides and consider the effect of coatings or installed hardware.
Supply usable design data
The test program may require a netlist, BOM, placement information and CAD data in an agreed format. Accurate component values and reference designators reduce avoidable program-debug work.
Distinguish electrical checks from function
Continuity or component measurements do not automatically verify firmware, timing, wireless performance or behavior under load. Define a separate functional test wherever product-level operation matters.
Before you request a quote
- Ask for the planned coverage and excluded nodes.
- Specify handling of inaccessible or untestable circuits.
- Agree fault reporting and repair/retest records.
- Compare programming effort with fixture-based alternatives.
For a build-specific review, provide the actual revision, quantity and delivery requirement. Manufacturing limits, applicable certifications and lead time must be confirmed in the written quotation.
