Begin with the exact orderable component. Package names, distributor listings and library labels can conceal differences in pin mapping, body size or thermal-pad geometry. Connect purchasing decisions to footprint validation so an approved alternate remains compatible with the actual assembly.
Start with these questions
- Does every fitted reference map to an exact manufacturer part number?
- Were symbol pins and footprint pads checked against the package drawing?
- Does the alternate preserve electrical, mechanical and process requirements?

What to keep in the project record
Keep approved data sheets, footprint revisions and alternate approvals with the released BOM. A clean spreadsheet does not prove that the selected package fits the board.
