Establish the permitted scope
Confirm that you have the rights and authorization to analyze and reproduce the design. Define whether the objective is repair documentation, component replacement, a functionally compatible redesign or reproduction of a known build.
Recover evidence systematically
Collect available drawings, schematics, BOMs, firmware and samples. Physical inspection alone may not reveal all internal connections, component values or functional behavior, so record uncertainty explicitly.
Validate before manufacturing
Recovered documentation must be checked against the physical board and intended function. Treat replacements and inferred connections as engineering hypotheses until they are verified through inspection or testing.
Prepare the review package
- Evidence of authority and project scope
- Available design files and reference samples
- Known functions and operating conditions
- Validation plan for uncertain findings
